Things to Do in Bioshock

Friday, March 4th, 2011

So there’s this little game you may have heard of called Bioshock. I finally got around to playing the game a little while ago, mostly because I am terrible at games that are even kind of scary (Amnesia would probably send me into a terror coma), and I don’t usually get into FPS games much. But I got through it, loved it, and had it on the brain so much that I decided to give it the same treatment I gave Mass Effect some time ago.

Be warned, though, there are some MAJOR SPOILERS beyond the cut, so if you’re as big a slowpoke as me and haven’t gotten around to playing it yet, I’d avoid this post. Otherwise, let’s dive right into “Things to Do in Bioshock.”

We’ll Go to a Very Distant Land

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

So I play a lot of video games. Sure I do. But my heart will always belong to cartoons. And I’m here today, friends, to tell you about a very important cartoon.

Adventure Time.

Hey Guys, Let’s All Play Mass Effect

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I’m slowpoking pretty hard here, I know.

So my boyfriend got Mass Effect 2, and it got me interested. So I started playing Mass Effect (the first iteration), and well, it got me hooked. I’m a good ways into ME2, and I’ve gained an unhealthy obsession with the games. I thought I’d share some of my thoughts about my playthrough of the first game. It can be a refersher course for some of you guys who haven’t played it in two years, or a puzzling series of doodles for those of you who have never played the game before.

Be warned, though, SPOILERS AHOY.

Streetsharks

Old School is the Best School

I was sitting around my parents’ house a few days ago watching T.V. with one of my nephews.  I needed this break from campus because just too many people were wanting to hang out, asking for autographs, or wanting to just touch me in general.  I know, it’s hard to imagine that I’m that popular but what do you expect with a nickname like “Jet”.  I’m kinda a big deal…a really big deal. Ok, enough of the shameless self-promotion, back to my very important topic.  OK, so I’m being a huge loser watching cartoons with my 9-year-old nephew.   It had been awhile since I’ve watched actual Saturday morning cartoons since I became a big boy and graduated to AdultSwim (Venture Brothers, Family Guy, etc).  I was excited to return to my glory days of mindless fascination but I was disappointed to find that I was oddly bored with all of the cartoons that I watched.  It mainly seemed like every other show was an attempt at copying Spongebob humor or an attempt to be EXTREME and AWESOME!!!  Where were all of the goofy cartoons that really rode their characters’ personalities to be funny or used the time-tested formula of mixing humans and animals?

Super Mario Madness: Epilogue

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

So in apology for this nonsense, I’d like to present you guys with a Mario animation from Japan that doesn’t make you want to drink yourselves into oblivion.

Western Show on Super Mario Brothers

I dare you to not bounce along to it. I DARE you.

On that note, should you decide to watch the Mario anime I just spent a few weeks watching, the source is here. It’s more mind-boggling in motion.

Super Mario Madness part 5: Prince of the Non Sequitors

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

And so we come to what I hope is the end of this bizarre romp through 1986 video game lore. I pray that we reach the end.

Steel yourselves, my friend. This is going to take a while. (more…)

Super Mario Madness Part 4: Panting Underwater

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

So. Let’s review.

Mario and Luigi, fairly innocuous grocery-store-owners at the edge of a wasteland, are pulled from their world into what I assume is the Mushroom Kingdom, somehow connected to Mario’s Famicom. There they learn that they are famous there for being the Guys on the Ramen Cups, and that only they can rescue Princess Peach from the evil Bowser’s clutches.

Why?

Shut up, that’s why. (more…)

Super Mario Madness Part 3: Super Ramen Guy

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

So I may have mentioned last time that Part 3 would be the final installment. And I’ll be honest, I lied. There’s just far too much content, too much insanity for me to squeeze it into a third post. But I endure, dear friends, and so shall you. Hopefully the next installment will be the final one, but I make no promises. There’s some underwater physics that get ignored in what will be Part 4 that, frankly, I just can’t handle. It may devolve into incoherent ranting. Naughty words may be screamed by a frothing mouth.

I’m just…I’m just warning you. It doesn’t get any better.

Super Mario Madness: Part 2- Mushroom Boogaloo

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

You thought it was over, didn’t you.

Oh, how I wish it was.

No, my friends, I assure you, this rabbit hole goes so much deeper. And we’re going to see this through to the end, so help me God.
